Favorite Hot Dog Joint

All right guys, name 'em!

My favorite in the Wilmywood area is Paul's Place, in Rocky Point.

2 Favorites:

1.) Bill's downtown Washington
2.) Bill's over by the Walmart...lol

Trolly Stop is okay if you're into variety dogs.

Bill's....'nuff said.

Walter's Grill in downtown Murfreesboro is dayum good, too.

I've never understood what the fascination with Trolly Stop was. I waited in line there for 30+ minutes and was severely disappointed. All the city folks seem to love them, though. :vomit

I used to eat at the original Trolley Stop at Wrightsville Beach, and thought it was pretty good, although I always got mine with mustard, onions, and chili, and forsook all the weird variations they had. But since they started proliferating all over the area, their chili seems sweet, which is not good to me.

If I'm eating chili dogs, I just do them at home. My chili recipe came to me from the original best hot dog joint in Wilmington...Pappy Gay's Soda Shop, back in the 50's and 60's.

The best dogs are Pauls Place and Trolly stop.

Pauls place dog with Mustard Relish and texas pete
Trolly stop with mustard cheese and bacon bits

The best hamburger in the Wilmington area has got to be Johnsons Corner at 210/421
This spot is so secret the ducks dont even know about it!!!

Bill's hot dog stand down in down town Washington is the best around. Mrs. Hamilton has been cooking the hot dogs down there the same way for the past 35 years, and they still cant be beat.

My all-time favorite is PB's takeout in Winston-Salem between Forsyth Hosp and Bowman Gray on Hawthorne Rd.

I have eaten at the Trolley Stop, Salt Works, Paul's, Bill's, Yum-Yum.

PB's bets them hands down. Flat top grilled dog and toasted bun with the usual NC topping's; Mustard, Chili, Onions, Slaw.

In the old days, I would eat 2-3 hot dogs from there 3-4 days a week. Good cheap eats.

Add a vote for Bill's in Washington.... ate 6 of them last Saturday all together. :hungry

My best "use to be" was Jacks Burger House on 70 hwy near Princeton, NC. "5 Little Jack Burgers or 5 Jacks Hot Dogs for $2.50"... I remember as a kid it was a treat when Mom wuld show with a reddish grease stained brown bag full!

In the mid-60's Paul's Place dogs were $.15 ea., 2/$.25...I used to make 4-5 trips between Wilmington and Rocky Point every day, hauling cut flowers from our pack house to the truckers. I'd make a stop at Paul's Place and pick up a pair each way, every trip. Never did get tired of them.

Years ago before he passed, the best place in NC was Jim Hunt's on Hwy 150 in Reeds (Davidson County) right across from Elementary School. Something about his spittoon sitting there beside the stove and him hitting it across the chili pot always made it taste better. Two hotdogs you almost had to eat with a fork and a cold bottle of Pepsi right out of the cooler.

Skeeter is correct about PB's, place stays packed.

I did eat at Bill's on Saturday at lunch and it was perfectly edible. It was good but not falling over myself like some.

Percy Flowers and Pauls Place. Never had Bills.

But the last hot dog I ate was about a year ago. Later thay day I developed that mean stomach virsus that was going around last year that caused you to puke about every 20 minutes for a good 4-5 hours straight. The whole family had it at the same time. Ever since then I haven't been able to eat a hot dog or any chilli. Can't stand the smell of either.

If it's not a Bright Leaf it doesn't matter who makes it, it won't be the best, melvin's in E-town is right up there with Paul's place 25 years ago, dang good eats for a little money, used to ride from Wallace to Rocky Point on Hwy 117 after school, grab 3 dogs, with Texs Pete and relish, chase it down with a quart of Budweiser and be at Columbia Street to catch the evening session with some buddies and be home by 9 o'clock for less than 5 dollars a day, Obama won't ever let our kids see this again
