New to NC ducks

Postby whistlingwings » Sun Dec 13, 2009 1:58 pm

Hi gentlemen and ladies,
I am new on NC ducks and thought I would post something to tell yall about myself. I am 21 years old and attend Appalachian State University. I have been hunting ducks since age 8 and got really serious about it around 4 years ago. To me, duck hunting is not just a hobby, but truly a way of life. I look forward to being able to talk to others who have the same passion as me. Other than that, have a good day and TAKE EM BOYS.

I had more opportunities in college than I do now out in the "real world." Enjoy it while it lasts.

Glad you asked. I like my barbeque eastern style with a spicy vinegar-based sauce, i like my tea sweet, my coleslaw runny with lots of mayo, i dont about putting pictures of my girlfriend (soon to be fiance :drinking1 ) on here, I do shoot hens, and i try to stick to ice cold bud light and jack and coke

This guy might make it. Good answers and he didn't ask about a "spot" right out of the gate. Hey fellas when is the next get-together? Anyone interested in a "meet" in NE NC?
Just the facts......

3) He's probably been hanging out at the Grandfather Mtn Community Center...

Lexington style BBQ is why there are no ducks up there.

That could definitely be worked out haha. Don't get me wrong, I can speak to the ducks. I'm just not much on big highball calls and elaborate feed chuckles. To quote the great Phil Robertson, "A duck wouldn't even qualify in a calling championship".

Why miss the opertunity? We do get some ducks around... unless you're chasin chicks on the weekends.

Where ya from? Any relations to WhistlingWings guide service??
BTW - We eat Ketcup on our fries up here too.

whistlingwings wrote:3) I've never heard of the Grandfather Community Center

That's where almost all the ASU and Boone Du Chapters have the Banquets/Oyster Roast. If you go to one, you'll know where it's at from then on (over near Foscoe Fly shop).

Just sayin....

I hunt in Watauga. I just don't see much action cause we mostly just float the New River. Been out to Elk once. I'm actually from the piedmont around Lake Norman. And believe it or not, I'm a member of ASU DU and i know where you're talking about now. I didn't know it was called the Grandfather Community Center though. Our chairman always called it Foscoe something. (I guess thats what I get for taking advantage of the beer on site :drinking1 ). We have our fall Banquets at different restaurants though and just do the spring banquet/oyster roast out there.

Yep - 1st split Opener (local)
2 guns - 12 ducks & 3 geese
2 mallards
2 wood ducks
8 blue wings
3 Canadas

ASU, lets see...
Cameron McCarty was the chair, then he graduated... the Nick was the Chair, then he graduated...
Who's the new Chair? I missed the last deal up there (Fred Causby came, and probably Cabell Barrow).
Sorry I missed it.

Boone had one lined up a couple weeks ago, and postponed it.... Boone will probably be in the spring instead.

PS - I'm in Lenoir, just 20 mins down the mtn. :D Ain't no ducks here either.

We had Phillip Matthews from 07-08 and now some PIKE is our chairman (couldn't tell you his name because I haven't been around much this semester) I don't really know what's going on but at least the chapter's still running. Phillip asked me if I would be chairman after him,(hell he was asking everybody but nobody wanted to step up and do it, including me) so it appears that now our chapter is overrun with people that don't even hunt. But, as long as the money for the cause is still coming in I guess I shouldn't be complaining. :D

Step up dude, what's the problem? :bananna

If ya need help, Cabell, Fred, and myself will help all we can.

All ya gotta do is get people on the Committee and delegate the work. The Chairman's job is the easiest, if ya know how to work it.

Delegate.....

You any relations to Whistling Wings Guide Service in Durham??

I appreciate it guys. The new chairman's name is Jeremy Bryan. I did not go to one meeting this fall because I was so sickened by the road we had gone down. However, I realize now that this was a bad decision and have already pledged to be there as much as possible to make sure this chapter doesn't disappear like so many others. I will most definitely let you guys know if I need any help. I'm going to try to be the chairman next year and lead it back to where I (and I'm sure most of you all) think it should be. ie: not a Wednesday social club, but a group that is truly focused on the conservation of wetlands to save the spoils of the sport we all love so much.

I'm excited about meeting ALL of you guys. There's not a whole lot of people that I know up in the Boone area that chase ducks so to find all of ya'll at the same time is a rare feat. PS tsmart do you ever eat at pancho villa?

Which Pancho Villa?
Lenoir or Granite?

Eat in Lenoir when I go, but like Max's Mexican Eatery in Hky better - right off 321 on 70.
I have ate at the Pancho Villa in Granite a time or two - it's better than Lenoir but farther. If i go that far, I go on to Max's most of the time.

When & where is the meeting?? Might try and make it if I can.

I was talking about the one in Lenoir. My roomate swears it's the best in the US. haha. I was just wondering because he talks about it all the time, along with Hannah's barbecue. I'm not sure where or when our meetings are anymore, I asked the new chairman about three times on the facebook group and he has yet to get back to me. I will let you know when and where it is when i find out. I would really appreciate it if you came.

If ya find the date/time - shoot me an e-mail @ steelshot4ducks@yahoo.com and let me know. I'll try and get up there.

Panchos - get the ACP Chicken.

Hannahs? ugh
Try TarheelQ, Speedys, or Lexingtom BBQ - down around Mocksville/Lexington. That's the good styff. Hannahs is OK, if you're not near Lexington.
